Most of us are aware that calcium builds bones and teeth, but are calcium supplements important? Learn how your body uses calcium and what the best sources of calcium are. p /What does calcium do for your body? In addition to strengthening teeth and bones, calcium is responsible for a healthy heart and muscles. Every day your body takes calcium from its stores ndash; which happen to be your bones and teethmdash;and then replaces the calcium in those stores with the calcium you eat. If your calcium intake is low, your bones and teeth get weaker and weaker as time goes by, since the body keeps making withdrawals from your bones and teeth, regardless of how much or little calcium you are restoring. You need to keep your calcium intake up to protect your teeth and bones. p /What should you do to get enough calcium? You can get plenty of calcium from milk products and shrimp, salmon, and sardines. You can also get calcium from leafy greens and soy products, although some scientists caution that the oxalate in these products may counteract the absorption of the calcium. p /What is your recommended daily calcium intake? The recommended minimums are as follows: children-400 mg, teens and adults-800 mg, and pregnant or lactating mothers-1200 mg. If you are a grown woman, you can’t go wrong by taking 1500 mg each day. p /Is dietary consumption enough, or do you need calcium supplements? Most women don’t eat enough calcium and would benefit from supplements to protect them from osteoporosis. Vegans will definitely want to take calcium supplements since they don’t eat fish or dairy products. Most doctors recommend calcium citrate supplements since they don’t contain lead and are easily absorbed. Take three 500 mg tablets a day, one with each meal, since your body can only absorb 500 mg at a time. You need vitamin D to adequately absorb the calcium, so take a vitamin D supplement as well. p /Calcium supplements ensure strong bones and teeth, which means a strong you!p /br /@@AMAZONWIDGET;calcium supplements;3760931@@. p /div style=margin: 5 0 5 0; text-align: center;img src=http://www.autopowerblogs.com/blogImages/24d6a8832402ad.jpg alt=image //div
Posts Tagged ‘Health / Fitness’Are Calcium Supplements Necessary?Thursday, May 17th, 2012Tips For Safe Rock ClimbingWednesday, May 16th, 2012Rock climbing is both an excellent full-body workout and an excellent way to get a healthy dose of sun on your body. But if you do not pay close attention to the proper precautions for safety when it comes to rock climbing, it can also be an easy way to end up injured. Make sure you are taking proper safety precautions when rock climbing by following these tips, and you will be able to get that great workout without risking injury in the process! p /One great way to make sure you remain safe while rock climbing is to do your climbing at an indoor rock climbing gym. While these places will not enable you to get sun on your skin, they will provide plenty of safety measures designed to keep patrons from getting hurt. p /If you prefer to climb outdoors, however, you can still remain safe; you simply have to know what you are doing. One of the most important things for remaining safe while climbing is to always go with a partner who can spot you and help you find hand and foot holds. This partner will be able to let you know if you will be better off abandoning a route, and they will also be able to ease your fall if you slip off the wall. p /@@AMAZONWIDGET;rock climbing;1079730@@. p /You should also never climb without a crash pad, as you will need a soft, safe landing space in case you fall. A crash pad is no replacement for a spotter, however; remember, when you go climbing, you should always have a spotter as well as a crash pad! p /If you are climbing on a wall that is higher than ten or fifteen feet, you should never free climb, but should always top climb. This will keep you safe if your hands ever slip off the rock, as you will be strapped to a rope the whole time. p /Finally, you can lessen your chances of getting hurt if you make sure you have the right equipment for climbing. You can conquer any route (and have a lot of fun doing it!) without exposing yourself to unnecessary risk as long as you have good climbing shoes, clothes, and chalk! p /div style=margin: 5 0 5 0; text-align: center;img style=max-width: 100%; src=http://www.autopowerblogs.com/blogImages/04d9b86eb627e7.jpg alt=image //div Related Reading:Exploring Three Great Ways To Prepare Chai TeaTuesday, May 8th, 2012If you have thought it might be good for you to drink less coffee than you currently drink – finding an alternative that is healthier and not quite so packed with caffeine – or if tea is simply something you already enjoy drinking, one of the best teas to take a look at is chai; chai is a black tea (which means it has a stronger flavor and a bit more caffeine than green tea) that has a distinctive, full-bodied flavor that is loved in many parts of the world, and once you know how to prepare it yourself, you will be able to enjoy it right there in your home! p /Plain old hot chai is the standard way to enjoy it; in order to make a mug of hot chai tea, you will want too bring water to just under a boil, and then you will want to pour this water (about 8 ounces) over the teabag, allowing it to steep for about five minutes before you remove the teabag and enjoy (hint: if you want slightly stronger tea, dunk the teabag up and down in the water before removing). p /@@ADSENSE@@. p /But as wonderful as hot chai is, another favorite is the chai latte; for this drink, you will want to bring the water to a full boil before you pour it over the teabag – and then, once you have prepared the tea (making sure to dunk the teabag up and down before removing, as the stronger flavor will be important), add a bit of milk and a dash of sugar to enhance the flavor of the chai. p /Finally, consider taking a look at another favorite – iced chai; you will start out making this in much the same way you would make hot chai, but double the strength of the tea (using two teabags per 8 ounces, instead of one). Once the tea is brewed and ready to go, stir in some sugar (if desired), then stash the tea in the refrigerator until it cools – at which point it can be served in glasses with ice for a cold, delicious treat! p /@@ADSENSE@@. Personalize each of the five restraints such that it applies to you and your particular situations. Consider these five restraints as you go through your asana (yoga poses), and then seek to carry these principles with you throughout the day. p /The very first yama is referred to as ahimsa, which means practice of non-violence. You might interpret this to mean being kind towards your boss, a fellow employee, another person rushing for the subway, or a family member. You might decide to hold your temper in a trying situation or perhaps you will project this attitude outward in a conscious effort to be kind towards all people. p /The second yama is satya, or commitment to truthfulness. This may be truthfulness with others, or it may be an issue of being true to yourself and living authentically. You might embrace this principle by speaking words of truth or by honoring your integrity and the integrity of others. p /The third yama is asteya, or refusal to steal. This can be anything as small as not reporting a bank error or as big as not stealing a coworkerrsquo;s ideas. You may decide the best way to implement this yama is to only use as much as you truly need, preserving resources so others may also have enough, and thereby honoring the earth and its inhabitants. p /Fourth on the list is called brahmacarya, which has to do with moderation. You may wish to examine your life for examples of overindulgence or underindulgence to try to find the happy medium of a moderate life. By living moderately and avoiding extremes, you will have the energy and resources to give to others. p /The last yama is aparigrapha, or refusal to hoard for oneself. This principle leads us to never hoard our possessions, but to give freely, sharing with others in need. p /The five moral restraints, or yamas, will lead you to enlightenment, especially if practiced in conjunction with the niyamas. p /@@AMAZONWIDGET;yoga;1000@@. p /@@AMAZONWIDGET;yoga;130@@. p /@@AMAZONWIDGET;yoga;195208011@@. p /@@AMAZONWIDGET;yoga;1079730@@.
